How to reach: To reach the tidal bench marks from the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center at the north end of the State Highway 12 bridge over Oregon Inlet, proceed by boat SW through Walter Slough, then bear left at the SW end of Walter Slough and continue SSW through Oregon Inlet Channel. Channel access to the dock on the spoil island is in the vicinity of day marker #41 and buoy #40 in Oregon Inlet Channel. The bench marks are found in an alignment range formed by the nine pilings that are set along the NW side of the wood dock on the NE side of the island. Before accessing the island, obtain permission from Mr. Bill Boykin at 252-473-4824 ro 252-531-4333. The tide gauge was located on the end of the T-dock on the NE side of the island.
