To reach the bench marks by boat from the El Conquistador Hotel marina in
Fajardo, proceed 6.0 km (3.75 mi) ESE to the ferry dock on the south end of Isla
Palominos. The tide gauge is on the end of the ferry dock, and the bench marks
are located across the island from the base of the dock to the eastern shore.

The primary bench mark is set in a rock outcrop at the base of a hill closer to
the east side of the island, 154.20 m (505.9 ft) ENE of the SE corner of a white
building south of the restaurant that is east of the dock, 31.90 m (104.7 ft) NE
of a bushy tree in between dirt tractor trails on the north side of the grass
meadow, 28.53 m (93.6 ft) NE of the beginning of a tractor trail on the north
side of the grass meadow and about 1.00 m (3.3 ft) higher than the ground.

the tool shed and 5.42 m (17.8 ft) east of the SE corner of the tool shed.

5.66 m (18.6 ft) east of the top of the sand beach, 2.45 m (8.0 ft) west of the
wooden railing around the covered waiting area for the ferry and about 0.65 m
(2.1 ft) higher than the ground.

the beach with trunk diameter 0.65 m (2.1 ft), 9.56 m (31.4 ft) NW of the
apparent high water line and 3.08 m (10.1 ft) NW of the top of the coral and
rock beach.

D E F I N I T I O N S
Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National
Tidal Datum Epoch. It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be
confused with any other fixed island datum.
This tide station location has a defined island datum (PRVD02). Island datums
are specific fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationship to local MSL
and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to another.
The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.
The PRVD02 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have PRVD02 elevations.
The PRVD02 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum. As a result of
this averaging, PRVD02 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from PRVD02 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
