To reach the benchmarks from the Cyril E. King Airport on St Thomas travel east
1.3 km (0.8 mi) out of the airport on Route 302 (Airport Rd), turn right onto
Route 30 (Moravian Highway) and continue east on Route 30 for 4.7 km (2.9 mi) as
the name changes to Veterans Drive and Long Bay Road as you continue through the
city of Charlotte Amalie, turn left onto Route 313 (West Indies Dock Road) and
travel NE for 0.55 km (0.3 mi) turning to the right onto Route 38 (Weymouth
Rhymer Highway) travel generally east then NE on Route 38 as the name changes to
Smith Bay Rd for 3.6 km (2.2 mi) to an intersection where you turn right to stay
on Route 38 (Smith Bay Rd) continue NE for 1.9 km (1.2 mi) and turn left onto
Route 388 (Suzzanna Blvd.) and continue NE for 1.0 km (0.6 mi) to the Coral
World Marine Park, bench marks are on the southern side of the facility along
the road and the sensors were mounted to the Coral World dock on the southern
side of the point.

The primary bench mark is set flush in the top concrete step of the short
stairway leading north out of the eastern most entrance to the Coral World
administration building, 22.58 m (74.08 ft) north of bench mark 9751583 B, 12.44
m (40.81 ft) NNW of the centerline of the mostly gravel road leading to the
eastern parking lot of Coral World, 3.19 m (10.46 ft) SSE of the center of the
gate across the drive way leading into the building complex, and 2.46 m (8.07ft)
north of the center of the gated doorway into the administration building area.

on the south side of the intersection where the driveway to the dock meets the
road, 15.04 m (49.34 ft) south of the SE corner of the administration building,
11.37 m (37.30 ft) SSE of the centerline of the road to the eastern most parking
lot, 4.89 m (16.04ft) north of the centerline of the driveway down to the dock.

and Dive kiosk at the western end of the main parking lot, 3.81 m (12.49 ft)
north of the southern edge of sidewalk where it meets the curb, 2.25 m (7.38 ft)
west of the stainless handrail in the middle of the stairway, 0.40 m (1.31 ft)
above sidewalk.

D E F I N I T I O N S
Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National
Tidal Datum Epoch. It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be
confused with any other fixed island datum.
This tide station location has a defined island datum (VIVD09). Island datums
are specific fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationship to local MSL
and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to another.
Virgin Islands Vertical Datum of 2009 (VIVD09) is a fixed datum derived from
a simultaneous, least squares, minimum constraint adjustment of leveling
observations. Local mean sea level relative to the 1983-2001 National Tidal
Datum Epoch observed at tide stations 9751401 located at Lime Tree Bay,
St. Croix, 9751381 located at Lameshur Bay, St. John, and 9751639 located at
Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas was held fixed as the single initial constraint.
VIVD09 replaces all previous height system as the national standard geodetic
reference for heights in the Virgin Islands. Bench mark elevations relative
to VIVD09 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at
National Geodetic Survey.
The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.
The VIVD09 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have VIVD09 elevations.
The VIVD09 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum. As a result of
this averaging, VIVD09 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from VIVD09 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
