To reach the tidal bench mark from the intersection of U.S. Highway A1A (State
Road 200) in Yulee, proceed 8.5 km (5.3 mi) east on State Highway A1A to its
intersection with County Road 107, turn south onto County Road 107 and proceed
4.7 km (2.9 mi) south to the "Y" junction with Arbor Lane, turn SE on Arbor Lane
and proceed 1 km (0.6 mi) to Wilder Boulevard (formerly River Road), turn west
onto Wilder Road and proceed 0.3 km (0.2 mi) to the residence at 4036 Wilder
Boulevard.  The bench marks are located along Wilder Boulevard.  The tide gage
and staff were located on the pier behind the residence at 4036 Wilder
Boulevard.

The primary bench mark is a disk set vertically in the east brick face of a
carport at the residence of 4036 Wilder Boulevard, 33.5 m (110.0 ft) SSW of
bench mark 2 1973, 5.03 m (16.5 ft) north of the SE corner of the house, 0.15 m
(0.5 ft) north of the joint between the house and the carport, 0.15 m (0.5 ft)
above the level of the ground, and 0.09 m (0.3 ft) above the level of carport
foundation.

The bench mark is a disk set in the top of a 6-inch round concrete post flush
with the ground and about level with Wilder Boulevard, 33.5 m (110 ft) NNE of
bench mark 1 1973, 10.06 m (33.0 ft) south of the centerline of Wilder
Boulevard, 4.57 m (15.0 ft) north of a 6-inch round concrete property corner
marker projecting 0.24 (0.8 ft) above level of the ground with a 1 ft long half
inch iron pipe set in the center, and 0.91 m (3.0 ft) west of a wooden power
pole.  NOTE:  A magnet was buried at the south side of the mark.

The bench mark is a disk set flush in the top of 6-inch round concrete post
projecting 0.06 m (0.2 ft) above the level of the ground and about level with
Wilder boulevard, at the NW corner of the property at 4098 Wilder Boulevard,
about 185.3 m (608 ft) east of bench mark 2 1973, 10.3 m (34 ft) south of Wilder
Boulevard, 4.7 m (15.5 ft) north of a 10-inch wood corner fence post, 3.9 m
(12.7 ft) SW of the SE corner of a culvert head wall, and 0.9 m (3 ft) NW of
wood power pole No. 147037646.  NOTE:  A magnet was buried at the south side of
the mark.

The bench mark is a disk set flush in the top of a 0.3 m (1 ft) wide concrete
wing wall near the west end, 23.77 m (78.0 ft) west of a wooden power pole at
the NW corner of the property at 4212 Wilder Boulevard, 6.25 m (20.5 ft) south
of the centerline of Wilder Boulevard, and 3.66 m (12.0 ft) west of the center
of twin culverts under Wilder Boulevard.  NOTE:  The condition of the wing wall
is deteriorating and the mark appears to be tilted down slightly to the west.

The bench mark is a disk set in the top of a round concrete monument flush with
the ground, located south of the junction of Arbor Lane and Wilder Boulevard,
between the two dirt driveways of 4132 Wilder Boulevard on the west and 4160
Wilder Boulevard on the east, 22.86 m (75.0 ft) SSW of the centerline of the
highway curve of the main roadway, 11.7 m (38.4 ft) SW of the center of the dirt
drive at 4160 Wilder Boulevard as measured over a steel drainage culvert, 9.1 m
(30.0 ft) NE of a twin oak tree with 16-inch trunks, 3.35 m (11.0 ft) south of
the center of a drainage ditch, and 1.4 m (4.5 ft) NW of a wooden power pole. 
NOTE:  A magnet was buried at the south side of the mark.

The bench mark is a disk located 13.1 m (43.0 ft) SW of the junction of Wilder
Boulevard and Nassau River Road, 9.1 m (30.0 ft) south of the centerline of
Wilder Boulevard, 3.0 m (10.0 ft) east of a 6-inch square wooden corner fence
post, 1.1 m (3.5 ft) west of a wooden power pole and 0.5 m (1.5 ft) north of a
carsonite witness post.  The bench mark is crimped to the top of a stainless
steel rod driven into the ground, encased in a PVC pipe inside of a concrete
kickblock, and about level with Wilder Boulevard.  NOTE:  A magnet is buried at
the south side of the mark.

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
