To reach the tidal bench marks from the Goose Creek Post Office, proceed SE on
County Road S-8-29 (Redbank Road) for 9.25 km (5.75 mi), then turn left and
proceed north on County Road S-8-503 (Bushy Park Road) for 11.7 km (7.3 mi),
then turn left and proceed NW on County Road S-8-9 (Cypress Gardens Road) for
4.3 km (2.7 mi), then turn right and proceed NE on County Road S-8-260 (Pimlico
Boulevard) for 4.0 km (2.5 mi), then turn left and proceed north on Live Oak
Avenue for 0.5 km (0.3 mi) to Pimlico Plantation.  The bench marks are located
along Live Oak Avenue.  The tide gage and staff were located on a private pier
behind the Jackson residence at 362 Live Oak Avenue.

The primary bench mark is a disk located near a power pole in the SE corner of
the front yard at 603 Live Oak Avenue, 42.00 m (137.8 ft) SSW of Bench Mark 3539
A 1976, 17.28 m (56.7 ft) east of the SE corner of the two-story wood house,
6.34 m (20.8 ft) WSW of the approximate centerline of Live Oak Avenue, and 0.64
m (2.1 ft) SSE of power pole number 17-24-L.  The bench mark is 0.06 m (0.2 ft)
below ground level, crimped to the top of a copper-clad steel rod driven 12.2 m
(40 ft) to refusal and encased in a 4-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

The bench mark is a disk set near a brick pillar used as a fence corner of a 1 m
(4 ft) high brick fence in the NW corner of the Jackson residence front yard, 50
m (164 ft) WNW of the NW corner of the one-story brick house, 26.79 m (87.9 ft)
ENE of the approximate centerline of Live Oak Avenue, 14.08 m (46.2 ft) SW of a
lone 0.3 m (1 ft) diameter magnolia tree on the inside of the brick fence, 0.82
m (2.7 ft) ESE of the SW corner of the brick pillar, and 0.15 m (0.5 ft) SSE of
a witness post.  The bench mark is at ground level, brazed to a 1.2 m (4 ft)
galvanized steel pipe surrounded by compacted soilcrete.

corner of the yard at 604 B live Oak Avenue, just past a curve in the road,
40.45 m (132.7 ft) ESE of the SW corner of a one-story brick house between 603
and 604 B Live Oak Avenue, 20.60 m (67.6 ft) ENE of the NE corner of the
one-story brick house with a two car garage (604 B), 6.68 m (21.9 ft) WSW of the
approximate centerline of Live Oak Avenue, 0.49 m (1.6 ft) south of power pole
number 17-24-H.

angle of a gravel road (park road) along Live Oak Avenue, 58.16 m (190.8 ft) SSE
of Bench Mark 3539 C 1976, 45.29 m (148.6 ft) WNW of the NW corner of a two car
garage that is SW of a two-story octagon house, 14.39 m (47.2 ft) NNW of the
north corner of a one-story brick house in the NE angle of the intersection of
the park road, 10.00 m (32.8 ft) ESE of the approximate centerline of Live Oak
Avenue, 2.56 m (8.4 ft) ENE of the oak tree, and 2.07 m (6.8 ft) SSE of the
wooden fence.  The bench mark is 0.06 m (0.2 ft) below ground level, crimped to
the top of a copper-clad steel rod driven 12.2 m (40 ft) to refusal, and encased
in a 4-inch PVC pipe and concrete kickblock.

witness post.  The bench mark is 0.03 m (0.1 ft) below ground level, crimped to

                             D E F I N I T I O N S


Mean Sea Level (MSL) is a tidal datum determined over a 19-year National Tidal
Datum Epoch.  It pertains to local mean sea level and should not be confused
with the fixed datums of North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88).

NAVD88 is a fixed datum derived from a simultaneous, least squares, minimum
constraint adjustment of Canadian/Mexican/United States leveling observations.
Local mean sea level observed at Father Point/Rimouski, Canada was held fixed as
the single initial constraint.  NAVD88 replaces NGVD29 as the national
standard geodetic reference for heights.  Bench mark elevations relative to
NAVD88 are available from NGS through the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NGVD29 is a fixed datum adopted as a national standard geodetic reference for
heights but is now considered superseded.  NGVD29 is sometimes referred to as
Sea Level Datum of 1929 or as Mean Sea Level on some early issues of Geological
Survey Topographic Quads.  NGVD29 was originally derived from a general
adjustment of the first-order leveling networks of the U.S. and Canada after
holding mean sea level observed at 26 long term tide stations as fixed.
Numerous local and wide-spread adjustments have been made since establishment in
1929.  Bench mark elevations relative to NGVD29 are available from the National
Geodetic Survey (NGS) data base via the World Wide Web at 
National Geodetic Survey.

NAVD88 and NGVD29 are fixed geodetic datums whose elevation relationships to
local MSL and other tidal datums may not be consistent from one location to
another.

The Vertical Mark Number (VM#) and PID# shown on the bench mark sheet are unique
identifiers for bench marks in the tidal and geodetic databases, respectively.
Each bench mark in either database has a single, unique VM# and/or PID# assigned.
Where both VM# and PID# are indicated, both tidal and geodetic elevations are
available for the bench mark listed. The NGS's Integrated Data Base (IDB PID)
provides geodetic datum based on traditionally leveled and bluebooked ties to
the National Spatial Reference System(NSRS) https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/datasheets/.
The NGS Online Positioning User Service (OPUS PID) provides geodetic datum based
on GPS position & tie it to the NSRS https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/OPUS/.

The NAVD88 elevation is shown on the Elevations of Tidal Datums Table Referred
to MLLW only when two or more of the bench marks listed have NAVD88 elevations.
The NAVD88 elevation relationship shown in the table is derived from an average
of several bench mark elevations relative to tide station datum.  As a result of
this averaging, NAVD88 bench mark elevations computed indirectly from the tidal
datums elevation table may differ slightly from NAVD88 elevations listed for
each bench mark in the NGS database.
