Galveston Bay Surface Winds Forecast Guidance

Effective September 16, 2014, the Galveston Bay Operational Forecast System (GBOFS) will be decommissioned. At that time, nowcast and forecast data for the Galveston Bay will become available from a new high resolution Northwestern Gulf of Mexico OFS (NWGOFS) which is nested to the Northern Gulf of Mexico Operational Forecast System (NGOFS). Also, at that time, we ask that you update your saved links to Galveston Bay nowcast and forecast data as well as to the THREDDS Data servers, where access NetCDF files is available.

All model nowcast and forecast information is based on a hydrodynamic model and should be considered as computer-generated nowcast and forecast guidance.

Surface Wind Forecast Guidance
This wind animation depicts forecasted hourly surface (10m above the water) winds for the next 30 hours. The hourly wind fields were created by spatially and temporally interpolating wind forecast guidance from the National Weather Service's operational Eta atmospheric forecast model. These hourly wind fields were used by GBOFS' hydrodynamic model to generate oceanographic forecasts for the bay out to 30 hours.
